Another memorable evening in what’s been a fantastic season for Elizabethan Lodge No.7296 at our February meeting, as a packed house – including the visiting Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Somerset, VW Bro Benjamin G W Batley, accompanied by the Somerset Provincial Team – gathered to witness the ‘Raising’ of Bro. Scott Brimson.
The meeting kicked off with a special presentation, as the ‘Travelling Trowel’ was handed over by the Worshipful Master and brethren of Royal Cumberland Lodge No 41. This symbol of unity and fraternity between lodges was a fitting start to the meeting, with so many visitors from across the Province present, and will in turn be duly delivered by ourselves to Connaught Lodge No.3573 in Midsomer Norton on 15/02/23.
The Somerset Provincial Team then proceeded to take up the various lodge offices for the evening, with Assistant Provincial Grand Master W.Bro. Richard Winter assuming the Masters Chair to conduct Bro. Brimson’s Third Degree ceremony. Always an indelible occasion and a highlight for all those present, the Raising was sublimely executed with grace and precision by the Provincial officers, who made it a truly incredible experience for Bro. Scott. In the 14 months since his initiation into Freemasonry, Scott has acquitted himself with an incredible degree of dedication and enthusiasm. He and his beard are frequently-sighted on visits to lodges all over Somerset, and we couldn’t be prouder to have such a great guy and fantastic character as a member of Elizabethan Lodge.
The Festive Board that followed the ceremony was a suitably lively and enjoyable occasion, filled with laughter, good cheer, and the sounds of lively conversation and clinking glasses as everyone came together to celebrate the occasion, in a dining room filled to capacity. Not forgetting one of the primary reasons we do what we do – an (extensive) raffle was held, with £275 raised for the WM’s chosen charity, Bath Samaritans.
The Worshipful Master and brethren of Elizabethan would like to extend their thanks to everyone who participated and made the event a truly special one – not least, the Provincial team, as well as all the visitors who joined us for the evening. We now look forward to our next meeting in March – an Initiation ceremony, and our last meeting of the current Masonic season – where we plan to finish what’s already been a fantastic year, on another suitably high note.
