As part of the effort to combat the ill-effects of Covid-19 upon the health and welfare of the most vulnerable in the area, Bath Freemasons have launched the ‘ Square Meals ’ initiative by re-opening their kitchen to provide wholesome, pre-cooked frozen meals for delivery by Social Care staff to vulnerable citizens through the B&NES Food Parcel distribution channel.
With funding and assistance provided by the Bath Masonic Hall Trust, Lodges and Orders based in Bath, Somerset Provincial Grand Lodge and the generosity of the Masonic Charitable Foundation in match-funding local efforts, the initiative has now raised nearly £24,000 to provide over 5,700 two-course meals by the end of June, at no charge to the consumer. Devised and prepared by Ben Hayward, the Bath Masonic Hall caterer, the square meals are based on PHE nutrition advice and will provide convenient nourishment for those who are struggling most.
With over 400 square meals already delivered across the area in the first few days, and production set to increase as storage facilities at Bath Masonic Hall are expanded, it is hoped that this scheme will go some way toward alleviating the difficulties experienced by those who are shielding, or have otherwise been left isolated by the onset of the pandemic.
