On 6th September 100 years ago St Alphege Lodge 4095 was consecrated and this significant date in our history could not pass without some form of acknowledgement and celebration.
Under the current restrictions the only realistic option was to hold an informal social Zoom session to mark the occasion.
23 members managed to login and our secretary opened proceedings outlining the agenda.
The Chaplain then read out a well prepared pause for thought inviting the brethren to think of our predecessors and what horrors were in store for them; putting our own situation very much into perspective.
The secretary read the script from our Centenary Warrant which will be presented to the Lodge on a future occasion, when circumstances allow.
The Centenary Master in Waiting followed with an introduction to a report on our original founding Junior Warden, Senior Warden and Worshipful Master; excerpts from which were read by our current Junior Warden, Senior Warden and the Worshipful Master of our Mother Lodge, Royal Albert Edward 906.
The final item was a toast to the Lodge by the Provincial Grand Master for Somerset, proud to be a member in his own right: this moment being captured by a screen-grab and stored for posterity. What will our successors think 100 years from now, one wonders; no moving holograms or CGI?
We sincerely hope that the programme of events planned for this year will take place in 2021 – commemorative memorabilia and Centenary Warrant await!
