During the recent Lift Installation at the Bath Masonic Temple, St Alphege Lodge took the opportunity to remove their Honours Board and have it professionally restored.
The picture gallery tells the story:
- Over the past 90 years, time and neglect had taken a toll on our Honours Board, leaving it looking tired and dirty
- To make matters worse, various styles of lettering had been applied which resulted in an unsightly presentation and leaving no room for the actual Honours!
- So whilst the Board was taken off the wall during the recent Lift Installation
- It was carted off to Geoff Collard’s workshop in Peasedown St John
- Where the whole assembly was dismantled
- The wood cleaned and re-waxed
- The top and left panel cleaned and the right panel stripped and re-lacquered in readiness for the sign writer
- Carole Kent then collected the panels and took them to her workshop in Cheddar, where she skilfully and painstakingly applied the names (and Honours) in sympathetic harmony with the older style of the left panel: she then returned the panels to Geoff for re-assembly
- The Lift having been installed and the wall re-painted, our Board was finally re-positioned in its original place in the anteroom
- We sincerely hope our forebears approve of this lasting testimony to their endeavours and those of subsequent Past Masters of our Lodge
The exercise was project managed by W Bro. David Hogg and all the costs were very generously met by his Father in Law, W Bro. Eric Davis. The experts involved were:
